Nursing Notes

This jouney (or battle if you prefer) that Roger and I are on is holistic, Spirtual, Physical and Mental. It will come as no surprise to most of you that the physical part is the most difficult for me. Needless to say, I am not a good patient, and I do not like to discuss it. I would much, much rather be the nurse, checking your B/P, or helping with your symptoms or investigations. So many of you are helping me with the spiritual and mental journey (thanks for keeping me laughing) and I know that many of you really are "my nurses", so I thought I would break down this afernoon while I await the arrivel of Patti and my 3 wonderful grandchildren, and send you a nursing summary for the past 12 days.

PS For all of the folks that don't know what this medical gibberish means. Marlene is well (she is still trying to tell me how to take care of her). She's a terrible patient, but I'll be persistant because God is on my side. Rem God is good -----and all the time God is good--------. In his love, Roger

Thanks for the medical update. We did pretty well with the abbreviations except "tx". We decided "tx" was treatment. It may not be, but Roger would have probably guessed "taxes", so I won't feel too bad if I am wrong. We are glad God is taking such good care of you on this journey.

Hope Patti and the kids made it without any problems. I know you were glad to see them, and I am sure they are glad to see the two of you. I bet the Ben and Jerry's coupons were a big hit. If Patti forgets to give both of you a big hug for Carol and me, remind her she owes you one.

P.S. - Madison was really in a bad mood today because there were no muffins or donuts after early church. I may have to start making the muffins until you get back. I really hate to, because I know people will say they aren't as good as Roger's...but maybe Madison won't know the difference since she has been deprived of muffins/donuts for a couple of weeks.

P.S. (cont.) - I have been asked what the deal is with "Fredriko Cooper". Is it a secret or can you tell me?

Love you, Allen & Carol

Allen, as one half of the naming of Fredriko Cooper I will be happy to explain. (I hope that is OK with you, Mom!) When we all gathered as a family to begin this journey, and we discussed all the details, we decided we would not use any words that began with a 'C' or a 'T' to define mom's problem, as they immediately give off a negative vibe. So I named mom's lesion Fredriko - because there is no fear in the name Fredriko! I am not sure anyone else in the family liked it, especially Mom!

Luke is responsible for the Cooper part. He overheard someone saying that Mimi had a tumor (see, it just sounds bad), but Luke didn't hear it correctly and he thought his Mimi had a Cooper, so he asked what a Cooper was. As a family we found this also to be an fitting name, hence, "Death to Fredriko Cooper!!!!"

I guess it is not a very interesting story, but when I think those words I feel that calming ferocity that Dr. S mentioned, and I envision David facing his giant. Mom is fighting this battle, facing her own giant, and all I know to do is to cheer her on!

We had a great visit with them over the weekend, and Patti and the kids made it to Charlottesville Sunday evening, so I hope they have a wonderful time.

Hey Dad, thanks for the yummy pancakes! I will be back for refills soon!

Marlene and Roger,

I read your blog daily, and it gives ME a source of inspiration. You have such a wonderful outlook on everything, and I salute you for taking such excellent care of yourself! Good things come to those who pay attention to their bodies.
